Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Guide to Uni (guidetouni.com) is operated by Umami Labs Ltd, a company incorporated in Hong Kong, the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What we collect
- Intake quiz answers — your study goals, current education stage, grade and budget bands, and target timeline.
- Contact details — your name and email address.
- An optional CV — only if you choose to upload one. You can complete the quiz without it.
- Account email — if you create an account to view a purchased guide, your sign-in email is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider.
- Payment confirmation — payments are made through Airwallex payment links arranged with our team. Airwallex processes your card or bank details; we never see or store your full payment card numbers. We receive only confirmation that a payment was made, and basic billing details such as name and amount.
We run no advertising trackers and no marketing platforms on this site. The only analytics we run are our own privacy-friendly page-view counts on our own server, with no cookies and no cross-site tracking.
3. Why we use it, and on what legal basis
We use your data for one purpose: to prepare your personalised university decision guide and to communicate with you about it. Where the GDPR applies (for users in the EU or UK), our legal bases are:
- Performance of a contract — for clients: we need your intake answers and contact details to deliver the guide you purchased.
- Legitimate interest, or your consent — for prospective clients who complete the intake quiz: we use your answers to assess fit and respond to your enquiry.
- Consent — for the optional CV upload. You can withdraw that consent at any time by asking us to delete it.
4. Who processes data for us
These are our main processors, each limited to the minimum data it needs:
- DigitalOcean — hosts our server (Singapore region), where intake answers and uploaded CVs are stored.
- Cloudflare — provides CDN and proxy services for the website, handling traffic data in transit.
- Clerk — provides account sign-in, processing your account email and session.
- Resend — sends transactional email, processing your email address and name.
- Airwallex — processes payments. Your card details go to Airwallex directly, never to us.
- Google Drive — used internally to store working documents related to your guide, accessible only to our team.
We run our own privacy-friendly analytics on our server — page-view counts only, with no cookies and no cross-site tracking — so no third-party analytics provider receives your data.
We never sell your data, and we never share it with universities, education agents, or advertisers. Our business runs on a zero-commission model: we are paid only by you, so we have no one else to share your information with.
5. International transfers
Users in the EU or UK
For users in the EU or UK, where data is transferred to a country without an adequacy decision, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum) as our safeguard. You may request more information about these safeguards, or a copy, by emailing [email protected].
Users in mainland China
For users in mainland China, your personal information is processed outside mainland China. Before we transfer it, we tell you the overseas recipients, the purpose and method, the categories of information, and how to exercise your rights, and we ask for your separate consent when you submit the intake quiz. The overseas recipients are:
- Umami Labs Ltd — controller; Hong Kong and Singapore.
- DigitalOcean — hosting; Singapore.
- Cloudflare — CDN; United States.
- Clerk — sign-in; United States.
- Resend — email; United States.
- Airwallex — payments; Hong Kong / Singapore.
- Google — working documents; United States.
You may exercise your rights in relation to any of these recipients by emailing [email protected].
6. EU and UK representative
We have assessed whether we must appoint a representative under Article 27 of the EU GDPR and the UK GDPR. We currently rely on the exemption for occasional, low-risk processing that is not large-scale processing of special-category or criminal-offence data. We keep this position under review as our EU and UK client base grows, and will appoint a representative if it becomes required.
7. Mainland China — local representative
Umami Labs Ltd processes your personal information outside mainland China: we provide the service from Hong Kong and Singapore, our server is hosted in Singapore, and we use the overseas providers listed above. Under the PIPL, certain overseas processors must designate a dedicated entity or representative within mainland China and file their contact details with the authorities. We are assessing whether this requirement applies to us at our current scale; if it does, we will designate a representative within mainland China, file the required details with the authorities, and update this policy. 8. How long we keep it
- If you don't become a client — your intake answers and any uploaded CV are deleted within 12 months.
- If you do become a client — we keep your data for the duration of your guide's access period (one year), plus 12 months.
- Backups — follow the same schedule.
9. Your rights
Your rights depend on where you live, but the way to use them is the same everywhere: email [email protected] from the address you gave us, and we will respond within 14 days.
If you're in the EU or UK (GDPR)
You can ask to access, correct, or erase your data; receive a portable copy; object to processing based on legitimate interest; and withdraw any consent you have given. You also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
If you're in Hong Kong (PDPO)
You can request access to and correction of your personal data. We do not use your data for direct marketing, but if that ever changed you would have the right to opt out, and we would ask first.
If you're in mainland China (PIPL)
You can ask to access and copy your personal information, request correction or deletion, and withdraw consent. Because we process your data outside mainland China, please also see the cross-border transfer notice in section 5 and the position on a local representative in section 7. We ask for your separate consent to this cross-border processing when you submit the intake quiz.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
The only cookies on this site are strictly-necessary session cookies set by Clerk so that sign-in works. There are no advertising or analytics cookies; our own analytics is cookieless, and nothing follows you around the web after you leave.
11. Children
The service is intended for students aged 16 and over. If the student is under 16, the intake form must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian, or with their consent. If the student is under 14 and located in mainland China, a parent or guardian must provide consent before any personal information is submitted. Where a parent commissions a guide, both the parent (as purchaser) and the student (as the person the data concerns) may exercise the rights in this policy, and a parent or guardian may request correction or deletion of a child's data at any time. We do not knowingly process the data of children below these ages without the required consent.
12. Security
We protect your data with access controls, least-privilege permissions, encrypted connections (HTTPS), provider-level encryption where available, and team access to client materials that is restricted and reviewed periodically. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a data incident affecting your personal data, we will investigate and notify affected users and the relevant regulators where the law requires.
13. How we use AI
We may use AI tools to assist with research, drafting, summarisation, and quality control. We do not allow AI tools to make final recommendations without human review, and we do not use your data to train public AI models. We do not make decisions about you by solely automated means — every guide is prepared and reviewed by our experts.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. For significant changes affecting existing clients, we will also email you.

本网站不运行任何广告追踪器，也不使用任何营销平台。我们运行的唯一分析，是在我们自有服务器上进行的注重隐私的页面浏览量统计，不使用Cookie，也不进行跨站点追踪。
3. 我们为何使用，以及法律依据
我们使用您的数据仅有一个目的：为您编制个性化的大学决策指南，并就此与您沟通。在适用《通用数据保护条例》（GDPR）的情形下（即欧盟或英国用户），我们的法律依据为：
- 履行合同——对于客户：我们需要您的意向问卷答复及联系方式，以交付您所购买的指南。
- 正当利益，或您的同意——对于填写意向问卷的潜在客户：我们使用您的答复以评估匹配程度并回复您的咨询。
- 同意——用于可选的简历上传。您可随时通过要求我们删除而撤回该同意。
4. 谁为我们处理数据
以下是为我们提供服务的主要处理者，各方仅限于处理其所需的最少数据：
- DigitalOcean——托管我们的服务器（新加坡区域），意向问卷答复及上传的简历存储于此。
- Cloudflare——为网站提供CDN与代理服务，处理传输中的流量数据。
- Clerk——提供账户登录服务，处理您的账户邮箱与会话信息。
- Resend——发送事务性电子邮件，处理您的电子邮件地址与姓名。
- Airwallex——处理付款。您的银行卡信息直接传送至Airwallex，绝不经过我们。
- Google Drive——供内部存储与您指南相关的工作文档，仅限我们团队访问。
我们在自有服务器上运行注重隐私的分析——仅统计页面浏览量，不使用Cookie，也不进行跨站点追踪——因此不会有任何第三方分析服务商接收您的数据。
我们绝不出售您的数据，也绝不会将其与大学、教育中介或广告商共享。我们的业务采用零佣金模式：我们仅由您支付报酬，因此没有他人可供我们共享您的信息。
5. 跨境传输
欧盟或英国用户
对于欧盟或英国用户，在数据被传输至未获充分性认定的国家或地区时，我们依据欧盟委员会的标准合同条款（或英国《国际数据传输协议》／《附录》）作为保障措施。您可通过发送电子邮件至[email protected]，索取有关这些保障措施的更多信息或其副本。
中国大陆用户

Umami Labs Ltd在中国大陆境外处理您的个人信息：我们自香港及新加坡提供服务，服务器托管于新加坡，并使用上文所列的境外服务商。根据《个人信息保护法》，某些境外处理者须在中国大陆境内指定专门机构或代表，并向主管部门报送其联系方式。我们正在评估这一要求是否适用于我们当前的规模；若适用，我们将在中国大陆境内指定一名代表，向主管部门报送所需信息，并更新本政策。涉及中国大陆数据的事宜，您亦可通过 [email protected] 与我们联系。
8. 我们保留多久
- 若您未成为客户——您的意向问卷答复及任何上传的简历将在12个月内删除。
- 若您成为客户——我们在您指南的访问期限（一年）内保留您的数据，并额外保留12个月。
- 备份——遵循相同的时间安排。

11. 未成年人
本服务面向年满16周岁的学生。若学生未满16周岁，意向表格须由其父母或法定监护人提交，或经其同意提交。若学生未满14周岁且位于中国大陆，则须由父母或监护人在提交任何个人信息之前提供同意。当由父母委托编制指南时，父母（作为购买方）与学生（作为数据所涉及之人）均可行使本政策所载的权利，且父母或监护人可随时要求更正或删除未成年人的数据。未经所需同意，我们不会在明知的情况下处理低于上述年龄的未成年人的数据。
12. 安全
我们通过访问控制、最小权限、加密连接（HTTPS）、在可行情况下的服务商层级加密，以及对客户资料的受限并定期审查的团队访问，来保护您的数据。没有任何系统是绝对安全的；若我们获悉影响您个人数据的数据事件，我们将进行调查，并在法律要求的情况下通知受影响的用户及相关监管机构。
13. 我们如何使用人工智能
我们可能使用人工智能工具协助进行研究、撰写、摘要及质量控制。我们不允许人工智能工具在未经人工审核的情况下作出最终建议，也不会使用您的数据训练公开的人工智能模型。我们不会仅通过自动化方式对您作出决定——每一份指南均由我们的专家编制并审核。
